No Town Should Be Forced to Host a Bullfight

The town of Viano do Castelo in Portugal banned bullfighting in 2009 because of its cruelty to animals.

But last weekend, citing infringement of "cultural heritage," authorities forced the town to host a bullfighting event. Take action to make sure this never happens again »

In a part of the world where this brutal "sport" is often defended as cultural heritage, outlawing bullfighting is a brave stance. But the local administrative court overruled the city's ordinance and set up a temporary bull ring in town.

The citizens of Viano do Castelo recognized the extreme danger, fear and harm bullfighting causes to the animals involved. Most bulls at an event are killed, and the horses used by matadors suffer injuries in clashes with the terrified and desperate bulls.

Citizens should be allowed to pass laws that reflect their conscience without a court overruling democratic law. Tell the Braga Administrative Court to stop forcing cities to hold inhumane bullfights against their will »

Thanks for taking action!
