Help Suffering Animals Languishing at Roadside Zoo

Dear Friend,

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has repeatedly cited the Lazy 5 Ranch, a roadside zoo in Rowan County, N.C., for failure to provide adequate veterinary care to animals, in direct violation of the federal Animal Welfare Act (AWA). Giraffes are forced to walk on their ankles because Lazy 5 has failed to trim their hooves properly in more than nine months. There are also animals with open wounds at the facility, and llamas and sheep languish under heavy fleece despite temperatures in the high 90s. Dead animals have even been seen in publicly accessible areas.

Even though the USDA has cited the Lazy 5 Ranch for failing to ensure the health and well-being of both the animals and the public, local animal control has so far refused to get involved. Please contact Rowan County's animal control supervisor, health director, and board of commissioners and urge them to immediately initiate a formal investigation into this rampant neglect!

Thank you for speaking up for animals!

Sincerely,
Alex Thornton
